Sign Language Interpreter for 2023-2024 School Year

As we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, we are seeking a passionate and qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team.

Position Overview: We are looking for a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support a student throughout the 2023-2024 school year. This full-time position plays a vital role in ensuring that our student can fully participate in all classroom activities, promoting a positive and inclusive educational experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation services to a designated student during classes and other school-related activities.
  • Foster effective communication between the student and their teachers, peers, and school staff.
  • Adapt communication style to accommodate the student's individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team to ensure the successful implementation of accommodations and support.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  • Attend relevant meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices in sign language interpretation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation or a related field.
  • Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or a relevant equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of Deaf culture and the unique needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Commitment to providing equitable educational opportunities for all students.
