Full-Time Sign Language Interpreter for the 2023-24 School Year in Cumming, GA
ProCare Therapy is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team for the 2023-24 school year in Cumming, Georgia. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and their teachers, peers, and school staff.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services for deaf and hard of hearing students during classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate communication between students and school staff to ensure effective participation and engagement in the educational environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other support staff to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure appropriate accommodations for students with hearing impairments.
- Assist in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
- Continuously seek professional development opportunities to improve interpreting skills and stay current with best practices in the field of sign language interpretation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language or related field is preferred).
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or similar national certification.
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting is desirable.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the ability to interpret accurately and effectively between the two languages.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Knowledge of educational terminologies and the ability to adapt interpreting techniques to different subjects and age groups.
- Valid state licensure and background check clearance.
Contract Details: This is a full-time position contracted by ProCare Therapy for the duration of the 2023-24 school year. The selected Sign Language Interpreter will be offered a competitive salary package, along with benefits and opportunities for professional development.
