Job Description: Sign Language Interpreter / Language Facilitator
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter / Language Facilitator to join our educational team for the full school year. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing effective communication support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring their meaningful participation and integration within the school environment.
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff.
- Collaborate with educators, parents, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
- Assist in classroom instruction by interpreting lectures, discussions, and instructional materials.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students with hearing impairments, promoting their engagement and participation in classroom activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group sign language instruction to students as needed.
- Help students develop language and communication skills, both expressive and receptive.
- Stay updated on the latest techniques and advancements in sign language interpretation and Deaf culture.
- Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent from a recognized certifying organization.
- State-specific teaching or interpreting certifications, as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- EIPA/RID is preferred, but NOT required.
- Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
