Pediatric Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) Position in Indian River, VA Area
Are you passionate about providing inclusive education for students with hearing impairments? We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. As a school-based sign language interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpreting services during classroom instruction, school activities, and other educational settings to ensure meaningful access to the curriculum for students with hearing impairments.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment by effectively conveying spoken language into sign language and vice versa, allowing for seamless communication between students and their hearing peers, teachers, and staff.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teams, and other professionals to ensure appropriate modifications and accommodations are in place to meet the individual needs of each student.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by providing valuable insights regarding communication goals and strategies.
- Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge of sign language, interpreting techniques, and assistive technology to provide the best possible support to students.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification, state certification) or equivalent qualification.
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong command of English.
- Experience working with students with hearing impairments in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
