Job Summary:
Blazerjobs is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our partnered school district for the 2023-2024 academic year. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide vital communication support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring their equal access to education. Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, and staff.
- Assist students with hearing impairments in understanding and participating in classroom activities, discussions, and assignments.
- Collaborate with teachers and other education professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
- Facilitate communication during extracurricular activities, field trips, and school events to ensure inclusion and equal access for students with hearing impairments.
- Provide support to students during assessments, examinations, and presentations, ensuring that they have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards at all times.
- Stay updated on advancements and best practices in sign language interpretation, attending relevant workshops and training sessions as required.

Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential.
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as the National Interpreter Certification, the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment, or equivalent) is required.
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with students, teachers, and staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both in ASL and spoken English, to facilitate effective interpretation.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to the needs of different students and classroom environments.
- Knowledge of deaf culture and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with hearing impairments.
- Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Commitment to promoting inclusivity and equal access to education for all students.
