Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter - 1:1 (High School)

Location: Columbus, Indiana

Duration: 23/24 School Year (8/2/2023 - 5/22/2024)

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Compensation: Hourly

Job Description:

Procare Therapy is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join a School Districts team for the 23/24 school year in Columbus, Indiana. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will work directly with a high school student, providing one-on-one interpretation services to facilitate effective communication and inclusion in the classroom environment.


  • Provide sign language interpretation services to a high school student, ensuring effective communication and understanding.
  • Facilitate interactions between the student and teachers, classmates, and school staff members.
  • Assist in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for the student.
  • Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, presentations, and other educational materials into sign language.
  • Interpret student's signed messages into spoken language for teachers and other individuals, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the educational team, including teachers, special education staff, and parents, to support the student's individual needs and goals.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of interpreted materials, progress, and communication.


  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential.
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) is preferred.
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, and school staff.
  • Ability to adapt to various educational environments and interpret a wide range of subject matters.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of students with hearing impairments and the ability to provide appropriate support.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
  • Must be available to work for the entire 23/24 school year, starting on August 2, 2023, and ending on May 22, 2024.
