Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter for High School Student

Location: Fallbrook, CA

Duration: Summer and 2023-2024 School Year

Pay Rate: $20-$35/hour

We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to work with a high school student in Fallbrook, CA, for the upcoming summer and the 2023-2024 school year. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional who is passionate about facilitating effective communication and empowering students with hearing impairments to succeed academically.

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for a high school student with a hearing impairment in various academic and non-academic settings, including classrooms, extracurricular activities, and school events.
• Accurately and effectively interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, ensuring clear communication between the student and their peers, teachers, and staff.
• Assist the student in understanding and participating in classroom discussions, lectures, presentations, and other educational activities.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to ensure the student's individualized education program (IEP) goals are met.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting the student's privacy and promoting a positive and inclusive environment.

Requirements:

• Possess fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and have excellent knowledge of Deaf culture.
• Hold a relevant certification as a Sign Language Interpreter, such as RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or NIC (National Interpreter Certification).
• Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with students, teachers, and staff.
• Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by students with hearing impairments.
• Reliable and punctual, with the ability to commit to the full duration of the summer program and the 2023-2024 school year.
