ProCare Therapy is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team for the 2023-24 School Year in Reno, NV. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and other school staff members. This is a contracted position, offering the opportunity to work in a supportive educational environment while making a positive impact on the lives of students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreting services for deaf or hard-of-hearing students in various educational settings, such as classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
  • Facilitate effective communication between students and teachers, ensuring accurate transmission of spoken language into sign language and vice versa.
  • Assist students in understanding and following instructions, participating in classroom discussions, and accessing educational materials.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents to develop and implement appropriate accommodations and strategies to support students' academic and social success.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, respecting the privacy and individuality of students.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized interpreter training program (e.g., Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting is strongly desired.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid understanding of deaf culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students and effectively collaborate with educators and parents.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Contract Details:

  • Start Date: August 2023
  • End Date: June 2024
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, following the school calendar
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications
