Full time Sign Language Interpreter
- Elementary Site, EC - 3rd graders
- Working with a team of interpreters
- Hours: 8:05am-3:25pm
- Duties include: mainstream interpreting, related service provider (OT, SW, SLP) interpreting, and working with Deaf and hearing staff
- SLI must have ISBE approval and cleared to work in Illinois
Description: Seeking Sign Language Interpreters to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and those who do not understand sign language. Interpreters will work in various settings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, government agencies, and private organizations, ensuring effective communication and accessibility for all parties involved.
Qualifications:
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and proficiency in other sign language systems as required.
• Certification from a recognized interpreting program or accreditation body (e.g., RID certification).
• Knowledge of deaf culture, etiquette, and communication needs.
• Strong linguistic and interpretive skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas accurately and impartially.
• Experience working as a sign language interpreter in diverse settings is preferred.
• Adherence to professional standards and ethical guidelines for interpreters.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and maintain confidentiality.
• Flexibility and adaptability to different environments and communication styles.
Requirements:
• Valid certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter.
• Continued professional development to stay updated on language, technology, and industry trends.
• Adherence to confidentiality and professional ethics.
• Ability to pass background checks and clearances as required by employers.
• Availability to work flexible hours and travel to various locations as needed.
• Commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusivity for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Collaboration with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication outcomes.
