Sign Language Interpreter

Blazerworks is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in Savannah, GA, for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication and providing support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position involves working closely with students, teachers, and other professionals to ensure inclusive educational experiences and opportunities for all. Responsibilities:

• Provide sign language interpretation and translation services in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, and school events.
• Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff members.
• Adapt instructional materials and resources to support students' understanding and participation in academic activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations for students.
• Assist in gathering additional information to better understand students' needs and tailor support accordingly.
• Provide one-on-one support to students, ensuring their access to the curriculum and promoting their overall educational development.
• Cover after-hours school activities for a specific student, ensuring their full participation and inclusion.

Requirements:

• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID, NIC, or state-specific certification).
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong understanding of deaf culture.
• Proven experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of educational practices and strategies for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and student needs.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
