SLI/ASL: Full-Time Sign Language Interpreter needed in Savannah, GA for 2022/2023 School Year.

An educational interpreter is an individual who facilitates communication among deaf and hearing persons in an educational environment using techniques developed for communication between deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing persons.

As a contract employee, you will be paid a competitive hourly rate that includes both direct and indirect services. Weekly hours each week are also guaranteed. More details about this opening are below.
 

Position Description:

  • Full time:37.5 hours per week
  • Dates: 08/02/2022- 05/23/2023
  • Caseload: 1:1 with student (caseload may change)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language (ASL) or Educational Interpreting
  • EIPA, RID, and NIC Certified
  • Must have EIPA score of 3.5

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for course work through means such as consultation with instructors, reading the assignments, and previewing educational videotapes.
  • Informally assess student language skills and share pertinent findings with teachers.
  • Work with the general education teacher to determine the best physical placement of interpreter and student.
  • Assume other in-school interpreting responsibilities such as: parent conferences, testing, disciplinary situations, counseling, field trips, etc., as requested by the direct supervisor or building administrator.
  • Work as a part of the educational team.
  • Facilitate communication for all consumers rather than assisting or completing the work for the deaf or hard of hearing student.
  • Avoid disciplining the deaf or hard of hearing student and other students while maintaining an understanding that they support expectations regarding discipline.
  • Adhere to the R.I.D. code of ethics
