An exciting opportunity awaits for skilled Sign Language Interpreters passionate about providing vital communication support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This full-time, onsite contract position comes with a 37.5-hour work week and offers the chance to make a significant impact in an educational setting near Athens, AL. As a key member of a collaborative educational community, you’ll facilitate learning and engagement through proficient interpreting, ensuring students have equal access to instruction and school activities.
Desired Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current license or permit issued by the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators (ALBIT)
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in educational interpreting or working with school-aged children is a plus
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver effective interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in classroom and school-related environments
- Accurately translate spoken language into ASL and vice versa, maintaining fidelity to both content and tone
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to support student engagement and success
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards outlined by ALBIT and educational best practices
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information and school matters
