Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven experience interpreting in educational settings
- Experience teaching or assisting with ASL instruction, especially at the elementary school level
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with educators, students, and families
- Compliance with all background check requirements for school-based positions
- Relevant certification or licensure as required by state or district standards (if applicable)
- Adaptability to travel between campuses within the district
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring accessibility during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers using ASL
- Assist in creating an inclusive, supportive environment that meets each student’s individualized education plan (IEP)
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and special education professionals
- Participate in meetings with families and school staff to discuss progress and strategies
- Travel between schools as part of the itinerant role (mileage reimbursement available)
