Make a meaningful impact as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter working within a supportive elementary school environment near Oswego, IL. In this contract role, you’ll provide essential communication support for one elementary student in a self-contained classroom, ensuring access to learning and full participation in the school experience.
Your fluency in sign language and expertise as an interpreter will be critical in facilitating understanding between the student, teachers, and peers. Qualifications & Preferred Experience
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher required
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) as an interpreter OR eligibility with application in process
- Experience working within school-based or pediatric settings preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom staff and contribute to a team-oriented environment
- Commitment to professional ethics and sensitivity to student confidentiality
Responsibilities
- Provide direct sign language interpretation for an elementary student in a self-contained classroom setting
- Work one-on-one to support academic, social, and emotional engagement
- Interpret classroom instruction, group activities, and school events as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Maintain records and documentation in compliance with school and legal requirements
