Key Qualifications:
- Hold a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III,
- Achieve an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher and a passing written exam,
- Or possess qualifications that the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH) deems equivalent,
- Demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL),
- Maintain professionalism and strong interpersonal skills in collaborative educational settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom discussions, lectures, and activities for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing,
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school staff to ensure effective communication and student engagement,
- Adapt interpreting techniques according to individual student needs and educational goals,
- Assist in facilitating communication during school functions, meetings, and extracurricular activities,
- Foster a welcoming environment that promotes student participation and inclusion.
