Key qualifications:
- Hold an American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) score of 4.1 or higher
- Previous experience working in a school setting, especially providing 1:1 student interpretation, is highly valued
- Demonstrated understanding of deaf culture, educational interpreting protocols, and best practices in accessibility
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with educators, staff, students, and families
- Ability to adapt interpreting methods to student needs and classroom contexts
- Valid credentials or certifications required by the state or local educational authorities
Role responsibilities:
- Provide precise and confidential in-class and activity-based interpretation services to facilitate communication for a designated student
- Foster student engagement and learning by accurately conveying spoken language into sign language, and vice versa
- Work in partnership with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure full participation in curricular and extracurricular activities
- Maintain clear records, fulfill reporting requirements, and observe all educational guidelines
- Adapt to various classroom situations, sensory needs, or changes in schedules
