Step into a meaningful role dedicated to supporting student success as a school-based Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract opportunity offers the chance to make a direct impact by providing 1:1 support to a student at an elementary school. You’ll work closely with educational professionals, ensuring full access to learning and communication for the student throughout the academic day.
What You Bring:
- Current Alabama SLI/Interpreter license or permit (required)
- Recognized interpreting certification preferred (RID, EIPA, BEI, or equivalent)
- Previous school-based interpreting experience, especially in K-12 settings, is highly valued
- Experience providing 1:1 support to students is preferred
- Strong commitment to reliable attendance and adherence to the full school schedule (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday)
- Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and strong collaboration skills
Your Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality interpreting services for a single assigned student during all classroom activities, school functions, and transitions
- Collaborate with teachers, aides, and school staff to ensure the student’s access to instruction and participation
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, peers, and staff in both educational and social settings
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation as needed
- Participate in IEP or team meetings to provide input on the student’s communication needs
- Uphold professional standards and ethics in line with interpreting best practices
This position is scheduled to begin as soon as possible and will extend through May 28, 2027, giving you stable, long-term engagement in a supportive school environment. The assignment requires commitment to the school’s hours and calendar—modified work schedules are not available, setting a clear expectation for reliability.
