Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Joliet, Illinois

As an itinerant interpreter, you'll work with a diverse group of students and collaborate with faculty across multiple classrooms, ensuring an environment where every learner can thrive.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or as an ASL educator in school settings preferred
- Current certification relevant to interpreting or teaching required
- Ability to adapt communication style to various student and classroom needs
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, real-time sign language interpretation for elementary students in both classroom and school-wide activities
- Travel between classrooms and occasionally between schools to support student communication access
- Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and families to ensure each student’s participation and success
- Contribute to educational documentation and attend necessary meetings
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom atmosphere through clear and compassionate communication
