Make a real difference supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter! We are seeking two passionate professionals for dynamic contract roles in school settings—one full-time position for the full academic year and one temporary FMLA coverage. Both roles offer the chance to collaborate closely with students, educators, and service providers in inclusive environments.
Full-Year Position:
- Work with Early Childhood through 3rd grade, supporting various students throughout the day
- Collaborate with general education, mainstream, DHH classrooms, and service providers
- School year: July 29 – May 25
- Schedule: 8:05 am – 3:35 pm, Monday through Friday
FMLA Coverage:
- Serve high school students (grades 9–12), facilitating accessible communication
- Assist students in mainstream classes and with Deaf educators/paraprofessionals
- Block-schedule format includes four classes daily
- Coverage dates: July 29 – October 31
- Schedule: 7:35 am – 2:52 pm (M, T, Th, F); 7:35 am – 3:00 pm (Wednesdays)
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and effective communication strategies
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles based on student needs
- Collaborative mindset to work with teachers, therapists, and other staff
- Current licensure/certification as required by state or national standards
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpreting for students during classes, activities, and interactions
- Foster access to instruction and social experiences
- Adjust services to meet individual student needs across various classrooms
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to IEP discussion as needed
