Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with strong interpreting skills.
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in school settings, is preferred.
- Hold an EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.0 or higher.
- Applied for, or hold, an active PEL (Professional Educator License) for interpreting in Illinois schools.
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and support professionals.
- Patient, compassionate, and adaptable, especially when supporting students with unique learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpreting services for one elementary student in a self-contained classroom.
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, peers, and educational staff.
- Assist in classroom activities, field trips, and school functions as needed.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment tailored to individual student needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
