Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Teacher preferred
- Familiarity with supporting students in elementary settings
- Strong ability to adapt communication for diverse learning needs
- Current certification or credentials for educational interpreting (as required by state regulations)
- Dedicated to establishing positive relationships with students, teachers, and staff
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Travel between elementary schools as needed, providing support across multiple classrooms
- Interpret classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings
- Assist in creating an accessible learning environment by adapting and clarifying content
- Collaborate closely with educators to integrate interpretive services into lessons and activities
- Serve as a communication bridge during parent-teacher conferences or school events
