Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Portsmouth, Virginia

Key Qualifications:
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or above, plus a passing score on the corresponding written test
- Consideration of other credentials recognized as equivalent by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (VDDHH)
- Previous experience in a school setting is preferred, with a strong foundation in both expressive and receptive American Sign Language (ASL) skills
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication into sign language and vice versa for students who are deaf or hard of hearing within classroom and school-related environments
- Foster an inclusive and accessible atmosphere for students by enabling full participation in lessons, discussions, and activities
- Collaborate closely with educational staff and other professionals to support student learning and engagement
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings as required
