Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Richmond, Texas
An exciting contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 9th grade student in a behavioral classroom setting. This onsite position focuses on educational interpretation during instructional times, working directly with a student who utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an assistive listening device. The student identifies as hearing, though his speech is not intelligible, and he is transitioning back to the public school environment after attending a Residential Day School Program.
You’ll play a crucial role in helping facilitate communication and supporting the student’s academic success. The assignment runs from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with an average of 6.5 hours per day, Monday through Thursday (26 hours weekly, no coverage needed during lunch, arrival, or dismissal).
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, especially within educational settings
- Experience working with students with hearing impairment and additional communication needs
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices and technology (e.g., cochlear implants, ALD devices)
- Licensed and/or certified as a Sign Language Interpreter per state requirements
- Comfortable supporting students adjusting to mainstream settings after specialized placements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to provide proof of licensure, resume, and supervisor reference
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time ASL interpretation for instructional periods in a classroom environment
- Support the communication needs of a single student with unique hearing and behavioral needs
