Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Simpsonville, South Carolina
Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to a rewarding school-based assignment assisting a middle school student in a dynamic learning environment. This full-time contract position is tailored for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter who is passionate about supporting students’ educational access and inclusion.
In this role, you will provide individualized support to a middle school transfer student from Colorado, working in general education classes throughout the day, aside from a 70-minute session during which the student meets with their DHH Teacher for IEP-related services. The exact school within the area will be determined prior to assignment. Hours are typically from approximately 8:15am to 3:30pm or 8:00am to 3:45pm, based on the site schedule. The assignment runs from as soon as possible through May 27, 2027, providing stability and a meaningful opportunity to build rapport with your student.
Required Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
- High school diploma or above
- Passing score on the written EIPA test
- Successful background check
- Willingness to review and sign the SLI Code of Ethics during onboarding
- Commitment to confidentiality and collaboration with educational staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, accurate ASL interpretation between student and staff in academic settings
- Ensure complete communication access for the student’s participation in all general education activities
- Work closely with classroom teachers and the DHH Teacher to support IEP goals
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards of educational interpreting
- Adapt to classroom dynamics and demonstrate patience and flexibility
