Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Springfield, Oregon
Step into a meaningful role supporting students with diverse communication needs as a Sign Language Interpreter on a contract basis for the upcoming school year. This is a full-time opportunity, with several positions available, where you’ll collaborate closely with a dedicated team comprised primarily of DHH professionals and robust classroom support. Your expertise will be vital in fostering accessible, inclusive learning experiences.
As a Sign Language Interpreter, you’ll be placed based on school needs, with assignment details provided closer to the start date. Flexible delivery options are encouraged—while in-person work is prioritized, hybrid and virtual arrangements will also be considered to best support student success. The assignment is expected to begin in late August and continue through mid-July.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid licensure/certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience providing interpretation services within educational settings is highly desirable
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong grasp of Deaf culture and educational interpreting practices
- Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and adapt communication strategies as needed
- Professionalism, reliability, and excellent communication skills
- Submission of an up-to-date resume and active licensure required; references will be needed prior to interview.
Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, one-on-one sessions, assemblies, and school activities
- Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, educators, and peers
- Contribute to IEP meetings and collaborate with DHH staff and other team members
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for educational interpreters
