Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Springfield, Oregon
Exciting contract opportunities are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters ready to make a meaningful difference in an educational setting! Positions are open for the upcoming academic year, starting in late August and concluding mid-July, with full-time schedules. Collaborate as part of a dynamic team supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students alongside experienced colleagues and classroom aides. With up to five openings, flexibility in working arrangements is a priority—the preference is for in-person support, but hybrid and virtual roles will be considered.
Ideal candidates will bring expertise interpreting in school environments, a commitment to supporting communication access, and a collaborative spirit.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current, valid licensure/certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience working within educational settings, preferably with DHH student populations
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with strong expressive and receptive skills
- Ability to effectively support communication for DHH students in both classroom and one-on-one settings
- Professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude when collaborating with teams of educators and support staff
- Willingness to provide recent references as part of the interview process
Responsibilities:
- Deliver sign language interpreting services to students and school staff
- Collaborate closely with DHH specialists and classroom teams to ensure effective communication
- Adjust interpreting approaches to accommodate classroom activities, academic content, and individual student needs
- Support inclusion and facilitate access to the full educational experience for all students
- Participate in planning meetings and provide feedback to optimize support
