Provide communication support for an engaging 9th-grade student in a behavioral class setting for the upcoming academic year. In this contract role, you will facilitate American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for instructional hours. The student, who utilizes Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, identifies as hearing but requires support due to unintelligible speech. Your expertise will help bridge communication in an inclusive classroom environment, making a meaningful impact while collaborating closely with special education teams.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid licensure or certification in sign language interpretation
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience supporting students in school settings preferred
- Ability to interpret for students with varying hearing levels and assistive technology needs
- Professional communication skills and sensitivity to behavioral and educational adjustments
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide in-class ASL interpretation during instructional times for a 9th-grade student
- Support effective communication between the student and classroom staff
- Collaborate with teachers, aides, and allied professionals to ensure consistent communication support
- Observe and adapt to the student’s use of Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and ALD device
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school guidelines and standards
Schedule details:
- Contract runs August 12, 2026 – May 27, 2027
- Monday–Thursday, 26 hours per week (interpretation not required during lunch or arrival/dismissal)
- Average 6.5 hours of interpretation daily for instructional periods only
