This contract opportunity, located near Summerville, SC, spans the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning August 5th, 2026, and concluding June 4th, 2027. Your role will be instrumental in fostering communication access and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Preferred candidates bring dedication, professionalism, and a passion for helping every student reach their full potential. This position offers a consistent weekly schedule of 37.5 hours, with work performed exclusively onsite.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid South Carolina Sign Language Interpreter (SC SLI) certification is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) in school settings.
- Experience interpreting for students in K-12 environments is highly valued.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with educators and students.
- Commitment to ethical interpreting standards and confidentiality.
- Ability to adapt interpretation style to various educational scenarios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and peers through ASL.
- Interpret classroom lessons, school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and school personnel to ensure all educational needs are met.
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to privacy requirements.
- Remain responsive to the diverse needs of each student throughout the school year.
