Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Williamsburg, Michigan

A rewarding contract opportunity is available for an experienced professional skilled in Sign Language Interpretation and American Sign Language instruction. This position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and focused on supporting a first-grade student who has experienced significant language deprivation. You will collaborate closely with school staff to bridge communication gaps and enrich the student's educational experience.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) in an educational setting
- Credentialed Teacher of American Sign Language or experience teaching ASL
- EIPA score of 4.0 is preferred; candidates with lower scores may still be considered and supported with a temporary certification
- Compassion and patience working with young children with significant language needs
- Ability to adapt interpretation and instruction for individual student requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a first-grade student in classroom and school activities
- Modify communication strategies to meet the specific needs of a language-deprived learner
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and caregivers to monitor and support the student’s language development
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
