Key Qualifications:
- Current license relevant to Sign Language Interpretation for schools
- ASLPI (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview) score of 4.1 or higher
- Experience in pediatric or school environments, particularly in 1:1 student settings
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt interpreting methods based on individual student needs
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 interpreting services between students and school staff in all learning environments
- Support children in both classroom and extracurricular activities, ensuring full participation
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families to optimize educational access for assigned students
- Accurately relay spoken information into American Sign Language, and vice versa, adhering to best interpreting practices
- Document and communicate student progress and any challenges to the appropriate educational team members
- Remain up-to-date with professional development requirements related to sign language interpretation in educational settings
