Your key qualifications:
- Hold a current NM PED license for Sign Language Interpretation
- Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings, preferably with middle school-aged students
- Strong knowledge of ASL and nuanced understanding of interpreting ethics and confidentiality
- Capacity for effective collaboration with classroom staff, special education teams, and caregivers
- Professional demeanor and adaptability for virtual interviews with district personnel
- Willingness to complete a background check before starting
Role responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a middle school student during classroom instruction, activities, and school events
- Foster accessible communication between staff, peers, and the student
- Support the student’s participation by bridging language and cultural differences
- Liaise with faculty and staff to anticipate and meet communication needs
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold district policies
- Complete school-specific onboarding as requested
