Ideal candidates will deliver 1:1 interpreting tailored to the needs of a pediatric learner, helping bridge communication and promote inclusion within the school community.
Qualifications:
- Valid and current license as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Must achieve an ASLPI score of 4.1 or higher
- Previous experience working 1:1 in pediatric or school-based environments highly preferred
- Proficient fluency in American Sign Language and understanding of Deaf culture
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with educators and families
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to student-specific protocols
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate, and contextually appropriate ASL interpretation for a pediatric student throughout the school day
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and therapists to facilitate educational access and social participation
- Prepare for classes and school activities to anticipate language or communication needs
- Support and encourage student independence and self-advocacy skills
- Ensure compliance with all educational, legal, and ethical standards related to interpreting for minors
