Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and fluency in interpreting spoken English to ASL and vice versa
- Experience providing interpretation services in educational or similar settings
- Ability to adapt communication style for students of various ages and learning needs
- Strong understanding of deaf culture and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (or on track to obtain certification)
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpretation between students, teachers, and staff, ensuring clear and accurate communication during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and school activities
- Support students’ participation in both academic and extracurricular programs
- Foster an inclusive atmosphere by helping to break down communication barriers and encouraging positive interactions among all members of the school community
- Maintain accurate records related to services provided and collaborate with educational staff to meet each student’s individual needs
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices and interpreting standards
