Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough understanding of Deaf culture
- Prior experience interpreting in K-12 school settings is highly valued
- Capability to interpret in both one-on-one and group instructional environments
- National certification (e.g., EIPA, RID) or state credentials, or eligibility to acquire
- Strong interpersonal skills—flexible and responsive to the dynamic needs of students and staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time ASL interpretation for students, staff, and families during classroom instruction, activities, and meetings
- Adapt interpreting style and language to ensure clear communication for diverse age groups and learning abilities
- Support classroom participation and learning for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff
- Accurately interpret educational materials and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Remain engaged, punctual, and reliable across varying assignments
