Sign Language Interpreter in Eden Prairie, MN
Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic educational setting. This contract position involves working closely with students and staff to facilitate inclusive communication and ensure access to curriculum for deaf or hard-of-hearing students. The assignment is part-time (.4 FTE), beginning August 18th and continuing throughout the full school year.
Ideal candidates have solid experience in providing sign language interpretation within school environments. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a passion for fostering student success in K-12 classrooms. You will become a key communication partner, helping create a positive, accessible educational experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid State of Minnesota Teaching License in American Sign Language, K-12.
- Proven ability to interpret in both educational and team settings.
- Solid understanding of deaf culture and the needs of students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Collaborative mindset to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, and peers using ASL, ensuring equitable classroom participation.
- Provide interpretation during class instruction, school activities, and meetings as needed.
- Adapt interpreting style to suit different grade levels and subject matter.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards at all times.
