Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Fort Smith, Arkansas

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting middle school students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, onsite position begins as soon as possible and will extend through the end of May, aligning with the school calendar. You’ll be working one-on-one, providing direct interpretation in classrooms and throughout various educational settings, helping to ensure your student has full access to instruction and school interaction.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid state licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (ASL required; Spanish fluency and/or MSL proficiency are valuable assets)
- Experience interpreting with school-aged children, preferably in a classroom setting
- Commitment to working 37.5 hours per week onsite, with consistent all-day attendance
- Ability to facilitate effective communication and serve as an advocate for your student within the educational environment
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- Flexibility and professionalism in a dynamic educational context
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one interpretation for a middle school student during classes and school activities
- Foster inclusive communication between the student, peers, and staff
- Adapt interpretation style to meet the student’s needs and educational objectives
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and aides as part of the student’s support team
