Make a difference in a high school student's educational journey as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter. This contract position offers the rewarding opportunity to support a student who is not only deaf or hard of hearing but also has cognitive and behavioral needs and is vision impaired. Your expertise will provide direct and consistent communication access, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
You'll be working from 8:15am to 3:45pm, Monday through Friday, supporting the same student throughout the school day. The assignment begins as soon as possible and runs through May 28th, with potential extension into the next school year (2026-2027).
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter.
- Extensive experience using American Sign Language (ASL) in educational settings, especially with high school students.
- Background supporting students with additional needs such as cognitive and behavioral challenges and vision impairments.
- Strong collaboration skills, working alongside educators, support staff, and families.
- Ability to adapt communication to meet the diverse needs of your student.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills to stay on pace with the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation throughout classes, activities, and school interactions.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to modify materials and communication strategies for full student access.
- Foster an empowering and supportive rapport, helping your student participate confidently in academics and campus life.
- Offer insight to the educational team on best practices for deaf-blind interpreting and accommodations.
