Educational Sign Language Interpreter - La Quinta, California
Two full-time openings are available for skilled Sign Language Interpreters to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) programs—one position at the elementary level and another at the high school level. These contract roles will have you working closely with students and educational staff, providing critical interpretation services that facilitate access and inclusion. What You'll Bring:
- National or state certification in Sign Language Interpretation (EIPA, RID, or equivalent)
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Prior experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably within DHH programs
- Ability to adapt interpreting style to elementary or high school student needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
What You'll Do:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school events for DHH students
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and staff to ensure educational access
- Support students’ understanding and participation, adapting interpretations for age and comprehension
- Facilitate communication between students, educators, and peers
- Participate in DHH program team meetings and ongoing training as required
- Maintain records of interpreting assignments as requested by school policies
