Sign Language Interpreter in Lexington Park, MD
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter for a K-12 population in a school-based, full-time contract role. This assignment will connect you directly with a specific student and provide ongoing support within the educational environment. The schedule runs through the end of May 2027, offering both stability and the chance to truly make a difference.
You’ll collaborate with educators and student support teams to foster an inclusive classroom, enhancing communication access for a student who relies on American Sign Language services. Your skills and compassion will ensure they have equitable opportunities in both classroom and school activities.
Qualifications:
- Valid EIPA score of 3.0 or higher
- Proven experience as a sign language interpreter, with school setting experience preferred
- Strong understanding of 1:1 interpreting roles and responsibilities
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to work collaboratively within educational teams and adapt to changing classroom dynamics
- Familiarity with the needs of K-12 students, including those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting services to an assigned student
- Facilitate clear communication between the student, peers, and staff
- Support classroom participation and engagement in both academic and extra-curricular settings
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
- Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to implement IEP goals
This contract opportunity spans multiple academic years, enabling you to provide consistent support and watch your student's progress firsthand.
