Key Qualifications:
- Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Achieved an ASLPI (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview) score of 4.1 or above
- Experience working 1:1 with pediatric populations, especially within schools or similar settings
- Ability to interpret accurately and fluently in both educational and social contexts
- Compassionate, reliable, and invested in student advocacy
- Collaborative approach with teachers, staff, and families to ensure optimum support
Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 interpretation for a student throughout the school day, facilitating participation in classroom instruction, group activities, and extra-curricular events
- Adapt interpretation style to fit the unique communication needs of the student
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and procedures
- Support the student’s social and academic development in partnership with school staff
- Document interpreting activities and communicate regularly with educational teams regarding student progress and needs
- Engage in professional development to stay current in best practices for K-12 interpreting
