An exciting contract opportunity awaits for a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a vibrant educational setting near Minneapolis. This .4 FTE role covers the full school year, starting August 18th, and plays a vital part in fostering access and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about bridging communication barriers, collaborating closely with educational teams, and enhancing student participation in classroom activities and school functions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid State of Minnesota Teaching License in American Sign Language (K-12)
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school environments is highly preferred
- Proficient in both receptive and expressive American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to interpret academic, social, and extracurricular settings effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a commitment to student success
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, assemblies, and school-related events
- Support communication between students, educators, and peers, ensuring full access to curricula and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to adapt materials and strategies as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Document services provided and participate in student support meetings, as appropriate
