Make a meaningful impact by providing dedicated support as an American Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming elementary school environment. In this onsite contract role, you’ll work closely with a 5th grade student within a Life Skills classroom, ensuring equal access to education and fostering meaningful connections. With a consistent 35-hour workweek, you’ll have the opportunity to build rapport, make a difference, and further your interpreting skills daily.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid qualification as an ASL Interpreter
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (required)
- Proven ability to interpret for students in educational settings
- Experience supporting learners with special needs or in Life Skills classrooms is valued
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative team spirit
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, real-time interpretation between English and American Sign Language
- Facilitate communication between a 5th grade student, peers, educators, and staff
- Adapt interpretation style to fit classroom activities and the needs of the student
- Support a positive, inclusive, and accessible classroom environment
- Collaborate with educational staff to optimize the student’s learning experience
- Maintain appropriate documentation as needed by school protocols
