Sign Language Interpreter in Norfolk, VA

Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in sign language interpreting within school environments
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter and/or Teacher of American Sign Language
- Certification: VQAS Level 2 or above, or EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
- Familiarity with IEP processes and collaborating with educators, parents, and support staff
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to promoting inclusivity and fostering supportive learning environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person ASL interpretation for students during classroom instruction, group activities, and school events
- Translate spoken lessons and communications into sign language, ensuring accessibility and comprehension
- Work closely with classroom teachers to adapt and clarify instructional content
- Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs as related to communication needs
- Support students in both academic and social settings, encouraging participation and confidence
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
