Sign Language Interpreter in Norwalk, CT

This contract opportunity as an ASL Language Facilitator is full-time (32.5 hours per week) and runs ASAP through June 11, 2027. In this pivotal 1:1 role, you will work closely with a preschool student—or another student, depending on your background and best fit determined during your virtual initial interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf.
This is more than just interpreting; you’ll also support tutoring, clarify classroom content, reinforce comprehension, and help expand students’ ASL vocabulary. The unique and vibrant school setting draws from a richly diverse urban population, and your skills will help bridge communication gaps and foster inclusive learning.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter (ASL)
- Preferably experienced in school environments
- RID and/or EIPA credential is highly valued
- Ability to work independently in a 1:1 instructional support role
- Passion for education, inclusion, and empowering young learners
- Openness to working with different age groups and adapting to evolving needs
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom communication and activities in ASL
- Provide individualized tutoring to enhance material comprehension
- Support and increase the student’s ASL vocabulary and language skills
- Collaborate closely with educators, therapists, and families
- Adapt support strategies to meet each student’s unique needs
