Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Powder Springs, Georgia
Step into a vital role supporting students as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter on a contract basis. This opportunity will have you work one-on-one with an 8th-grade student in a middle school setting, providing consistent ASL interpretation and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Hours are approximately 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, allowing you to play an essential part in the student’s daily educational journey.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret clearly and effectively
- Minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment), with documentation required
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings, especially middle or high school, is highly preferred
- Professionalism, punctuality, and a collaborative spirit to work closely with teachers, staff, and students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support the learning and well-being of the student
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time ASL interpretation between the student, school staff, and peers throughout the school day
- Facilitate classroom communication, translating spoken English into ASL and vice versa as needed
- Adapt interpreting style to various classroom activities and individualized educational plans
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards for educational interpreters
- Support the student’s participation in academic and social aspects of school life
