Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and families
- Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom protocols
- Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or equivalent preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lectures, instructions, discussions, and activities between students, staff, and peers
- Provide interpreting services for school-related events and extracurricular activities as needed
- Ensure accurate, ethical, and confidential communication according to professional standards
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate accessibility and inclusion
- Assist in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings related to student needs, when requested
- Adapt interpreting methods to fit individual communication styles and student learning requirements
