Make a meaningful impact in education as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students in a school-based setting near Spring Lake, NC. This full-time contract role runs for the 2026-2027 school year, from August 10, 2026 through May 27, 2027, with a weekly commitment of 37.5 hours (7.5 hours per day). You’ll deliver essential in-person interpreting services to empower students in their classroom experiences and support their academic growth.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Sign Language Interpreter license in the state of North Carolina
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings is preferred
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and staff
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Comfortable working onsite for the entire duration of the contract
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during academic instruction and school activities
- Assist students during classroom lessons, small groups, assemblies, and related events
- Collaborate with teachers and specialized staff to ensure accessibility and equity for assigned student(s)
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all school settings
- Monitor student understanding, intervening and clarifying as needed to support learning
