Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Minimum EIPA score of 3.5 or higher required
- Alternatively, eligibility through RID certification, even if EIPA is not held
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting practices
- Professionalism, reliability, and strong interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and student advocacy
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication between deaf/hard of hearing students, school staff, and peers
- Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and school events as needed
- Collaborate with teachers and student support teams to ensure accurate understanding
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet varying student needs and situations
- Maintain ethical standards and adhere to school policies
- Participate in IEP meetings or staff conferences when appropriate
