An immediate opportunity awaits for a skilled American Sign Language Interpreter to work in a vibrant middle school setting. In this contract position, you will provide essential communication support for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, empowering them to thrive academically and socially. The assignment runs from ASAP through the end of the school year, with consistent weekday hours.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
- Familiarity with middle school-age students and classroom dynamics
- Ability to follow a school schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:50 pm
- Reliable, responsible, and ready to collaborate with educators and support staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities between students, faculty, and staff using ASL
- Bridge communication between Deaf/hard of hearing students and their peers
- Foster an inclusive learning environment by supporting access to the curriculum
- Provide feedback and consult with teachers regarding student participation and needs
- Ensure accuracy and impartiality at all times while interpreting
- Adapt to various settings throughout the day, including classrooms, assemblies, and small group work
