Join Our Team as a Sign Language Interpreter in Winston-Salem, North Carolina! We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a school-based setting. Key Responsibilities
Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for students in classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and events
Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and educational staff
Interpret spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken English accurately and professionally
Support students' academic, social, and emotional participation in the school environment
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to address student communication needs
Assist in implementing accommodations outlined in IEPs and 504 Plans
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines
Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development activities as appropriate
Promote an inclusive and accessible educational experience for students
Maintain accurate service records and required documentation
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
North Carolina Sign Language Interpreter licensure or eligibility to obtain required credentials
Experience interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals
Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in educational settings Preferred
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score meeting state requirements
RID Certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
Previous experience working in K-12 school settings
Knowledge of special education processes, IEPs, and student accommodations
Experience supporting students with diverse communication and learning needs
Familiarity with classroom technology and educational environments
